K U D I R K A : an artist-led space in the grand front room of an artist’s house in the West End of Glasgow, Scotland. Its founder/curator is Sarah Kudirka. We are able to present just one exhibition a year, around midsummer (in the northern hemisphere):
Next event:
Midwinter’s gathering Sunday 21 December 2025 – Shortest Day : Longest Night an afternoon of 21 more invited artists’ handsized things, candles and music, all cooried in
Shows and other events hosted here to date:
June 2025 – Find Each Other Ruby Pluhar, Tilda Williams-Kelly, Gill Walton
13 May 2025 – House concert from musicians Adam Beattie and Fiona Bevan
21 December 2024 we held a gathering ‘To Light The Shortest Day’ where 21 invited artists each brought a hand-sized work to the table, illuminated by a wee candle. Oslo-based musician friends here on sojourn, Brooke Sharkey and Aksel Undset (aka Isak’s Island) played songs and some sang along. The windows steamed up. Art was bought and money raised for Refuweegee. Loved hosting this cosy winter happening.
June 2024 – Lift Others Up Rowena Comrie, Sarah Kudirka, Alison McWhirter
About us:
We aim for K U D I R K A to develop into a ’sometimes’ space used in different ways for contemporary arts and music – perhaps it may be a space for discussions, recitals, workshops, screenings, performance and other art-related events.
All those who visit will be guests in our home. This is neither a commercial enterprise nor a gallery/venue as such. It is intended simply as a generous and creative use of a ground-floor room in our high-ceilinged period house.
We see it as a having the potential to help others and generate new connections between the Scottish arts and Baltic/Nordic/European/International artists and musicians. We are artist-led, non-profit and unfunded but hope to run this project a while on goodwill.
To enrich the arts in Glasgow and help us to make new connections with and beyond Nordic / Baltic / Northern European arts and music, contemporary artist and musician friends will be invited to exhibit with us or to stay a wee while. An artist’s sojourn here at K U D I R K A simply provides a place to stay a couple of nights with no outcome expected but having time to think, play, talk, read, develop new ideas &/or contacts here.
PLEASE NOTE: we do NOT accept applications and cannot offer bursaries or per diem.
* Kudirka is simply our family name. It is of Lithuanian origin and is shared with a celebrated dissident poet of that country.

If you want to come and see an exhibition or attend an event please note we will only be open to visitors by appointment or on advertised open days. Unfortunately we do not have ramps installed and our space is on the ground floor of a period building up two short flights of steps from the street, as seen on the photograph shown above.
If you want to get to know us and be involved please follow us on Instagram and come to our events as advertised. Do let us know if you’d like to be invited to any future events.
NB We will not acknowledge unsolicited applications for exhibitions or sojourns, sorry.
